OTEL research student wins prestigious Goldwater scholarship

Multivariate Systems Inc. is a start-up medical device and data analytics company co-founded by Paradis, Vaze, Elliott and Halter.

Thomas Usherwood is a research student working part-time in the OTEL while being a full-time Brown undergraduate working remotely during COVID restrictions. He is an integral part in the project advancing quantiative kinetic analysis of fluorescence imaging, developing software and hardware to acquire and characterize arterial input functions.

An article highlighting his acheivement has been published on the Brown website, describes how Thomas "contributed to a Dartmouth College project developing new ways to measure bone and soft tissue viability." Thomas describes the importance of his many different research experiences, including his time in the OTEL. "These experiences have given me a diversity of skills in lots of different subjects," he said. "I've been able to think about what aspects of each type of engineering project I prefer, and that has guided me as I've developed a sense of what type of engineering projects I most enjoy."
